PFC George Raymond Huntzinger Memorial Bridge Rededication

Sen. Farry. Rep. Hogan, Ed Preston, and Matt Allen unveiled PFC George Raymond Huntzinger Memorial Bridge sign

On June 18, the Brownsville Road Bridge over Neshaminy Creek connecting Middletown and Lower Southampton townships reopened five months ahead of schedule and a $1 million less cost to taxpayers.

Prior to the reopening, I joined Rep. Hogan, Matt Allen, Bucks County Veterans Affairs, Ed Preston, Chairman PA Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Din Abazi, P.E., District Executive PennDOT, Kevin Loftus, President & CEO, Loftus Construction, local veterans and community members for a rededication ceremony in honor of PFC George Raymond Huntzinger, a fallen solder in the Vietnam War. The bridge was originally dedicated in August 2023 before PennDOT began construction to replace the bridge in spring 2025.

Huntzinger, a Langhorne resident, began his tour of duty with the US army on September 11, 1969, and less than two months later on October 29th he tragically lost his life on October while dismantling a landmine in Vietnam. PFC Huntzinger will forever be remembered and honored in our community.

Pinning Ceremony for Lt. Colonel Horne

Lieutenant Colonel Horne holds a certificate standing between Rep. Marcell and Sen. Farry.

It was an honor to attend the pinning ceremony celebrating Zachary Horne’s promotion to Lieutenant Colonel on July 4 at his family’s restaurant, The Irish Horne in Richboro.

A proud Council Rock South graduate, Lt. Colonel Horne has served our nation for the past 17 years, including deployments to Afghanistan and assignments in Germany.

Thank you to Lt. Colonel Horne for his service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to our nation. It was a privilege to celebrate this special milestone with you, your family, and Rep. Kristin Marcell.

Displaying the POW/MIA Flag at Public Schools

POW-MIA Flag: American and POW/MIA flags on flagpole

In June, the Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 835, which would require the display of the official POW/MIA flag when space permits, at public schools during times the U.S. flag is also flown. To read more about the legislation, click here.

PA Guard Military Family Education Program

Education Program: Young girl holds soldier dad's finger

As students begin preparing for the fall semester, Pennsylvania National Guard members are reminded their families could be eligible for assistance to offset the cost of higher education.

The Military Family Education Program is for Guard members who completed an initial service obligation on or after July 1, 2019, and are eligible to re-enlist in the PA National Guard for a period of six years.

The grants can be used for a degree-granting or certificate-granting curriculum, course of study, or training program required for entrance into a specific career at an approved Pennsylvania institution of higher learning. Read more details and find applications here.

Beware of the “Veterans Savings Program” Postcard Scam

Scam Alert! Pennsylvania Veterans Savings Program card on red background.

Veterans and their spouses are being targeted by a new postcard scam advertising a fraudulent “Veterans Saving Program.” The mailer claims eligibility for an extra $185 monthly payment and dental benefits, but the program does not exist. More information about this scam is available here.

Veteran Benefits Assistance

Benefits Assistance: VA Benefit Form on desk

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) provides veterans and their beneficiaries with free and safe assistance when applying for benefits. Seeking free help from the DMVA can help veterans avoid scams and exploitation from people looking to profit from veterans earned benefits.

Veteran Burial Benefits

Burial Benefits: American flag on coffin with flowers

Eligible veterans and their spouses can receive no-cost burial benefits at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national cemeteries. These benefits include burial in a VA National Cemetery, headstone or marker with inscription included and gravesite maintenance in perpetuity.

Veterans’ spouses are still eligible for these benefits if they pre-decease the veteran or if the veteran is interred in a non-VA cemetery.
