Burpee Celebrates 150 YearsI was pleased to present a Senate citation to Jamie Mattikow, President and CEO of The W. Atlee Burpee Company, in recognition of the company’s 150th Anniversary. Since its founding in 1876, Burpee has helped generations of Americans discover the joys of gardening through its innovative seeds and plants. If you have a garden, chances are you have planted Burpee seeds at some point over the years. During my visit to their headquarters in Warminster, I had the opportunity to tour the impressive facility and speak with Jamie about Burpee’s longstanding impact on our local community and its continued commitment to quality and innovation. New Law Requires AEDs at School Sports Events
Legislation approved by the Senate to help prevent the leading cause of death among young athletes – sudden cardiac arrest – is now law. Senate Bill 375, now Act 17 of 2026, will require automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be present at all PIAA-sanctioned athletic events and practices. The law also requires schools to develop and practice emergency action plans for cardiac incidents. AEDs are portable, life-saving devices used to restore normal heartbeats with electrical shock. The legislation was introduced after the tragic death of Greg Moyer, who passed away from sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game in East Stroudsburg, Monroe County.
