Shred Event Tomorrow in Langhorne

Rep. Hogan and I invite you to our shredding event tomorrow, Saturday May 16, from 10am to noon in my district office parking lot, located at 370 E. Maple Ave. in Langhorne.

This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents and help protect your identity. These events are a simple way to reduce clutter while keeping your personal information secure. Please remember:

  • Three box limit per household
  • Residents only, please no businesses
  • Plastic bags will not be accepted as the machine will not allow

Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item to be donated to those locally in need.

Prior to the event, please place all shredding materials and donation items in the trunk of your vehicle.  Once you arrive, stay in your vehicle and staff will assist with removing the materials.

Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee Hearings

Sen. Farry is seated at a table in a hearing room about to speak at a microphone with documents, water bottles, and a name plate on table in front of him.

As chair of the Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee, I hosted two hearings in Pittsburgh last week focused on strengthening Pennsylvania’s future.

We heard testimony on my legislation to expand Pennsylvania’s research and development tax credit to support innovation, life sciences and small businesses.

We also reviewed legislation from Sen. Devlin Robinson that would ensure Pennsylvania students have access to safe, lead-free drinking water in schools. We heard testimony from experts in environmental advocacy, public health, plumbing manufacturing and pediatric medicine regarding the dangers of lead exposure and the need for preventative action in schools across Pennsylvania.

Pittsburgh Fallen Firefighters Memorial

A brick wall with the words Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial is above plaques listing names. In front of the wall is a structure with a plaque and flowers. A large bronze statue of a firefighter is in foreground.

Earlier this month during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, Pittsburgh Fire Fighters IAFF Local No. 1 unveiled the Fallen Firefighters Memorial honoring the Pittsburgh’s firefighters that made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Later that week, I had the privilege of visiting the memorial, where the names of 138 fallen firefighters are etched in tribute. It stands as a powerful reminder of their courage, sacrifice and dedication to protecting their community, while ensuring their legacy will never be forgotten. I also had the opportunity to meet with leadership from Pittsburgh Fire Fighters IAFF Local No. 1 while there to discuss issues impacting first responders and the important work they do to keep our communities safe.

Save for Education and the Opportunity to Win $5,529

Six increasingly higher stacks of quarters with the last stack topped by a small graduation cap and tassel.

State Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced the fifth annual 529 Day Promotion is running throughout May. Pennsylvania families who contribute at least $10 to their PA 529 account this month could be eligible to win one of six regional awards of $5,529 to boost their education savings.

The PA 529 College and Career Savings Program is a tax-advantaged way for families to save for a wide variety of education, including technical training, college, apprenticeship, credential program and K-12 expenses. Saving with a PA 529 does not impact eligibility for Pennsylvania state financial aid.

The PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan helps families save at today’s tuition rates to cover tomorrow’s tuition expenses and the PA 529 Investment Plan offers a wide variety of investment options to choose from. Find official rules and learn more about how to make an eligible contribution here.

Mammo May: No-Cost Breast Cancer Screenings and Diagnostic Imaging

Large fountain with pink water outside Pennsylvania Capitol and words “No-cost breast cancer screenings and diagnostic imaging.

In Pennsylvania, we’ve enacted laws to cover breast cancer screenings and diagnostic breast imaging at no cost for individuals with state-regulated insurance. I urge women to take advantage of these potentially lifesaving laws.

Under Act 1 of 2023, supplemental screenings including breast MRI, ultrasounds and BRCA-related genetic testing and counseling are covered at no cost for those with an increased risk who are insured under PA law. Under Act 52 of 2025, which I authored and is currently in the implementation stage, diagnostic breast imaging including diagnostic mammograms, breast MRI and ultrasounds are covered at no cost for individuals insured under state law who are of average risk or higher.

Learn more about no-cost screenings here. Learn more about no-cost diagnostic imaging here.

Information on no-cost mammograms for those without insurance can be found here.
