Overhead Bridge Repair Planned at Night Next Week on U.S. 1 in Middletown Township

PennDOT announced that overhead bridge repair will occur at night next week on U.S. 1 in Middletown Township, under a $37.4 million project to perform high-priority repairs on interstate bridges, to maintain the functionality, safety, and mobility of the structures along critical corridors.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 7, a single lane closure will be in place from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 underneath Interstate 295 for substructure repairs on the overhead interstate bridge.

Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will make repairs to the deteriorated bridge decks, superstructure components, and portions of the substructures as needed.

Work on the superstructures will include repairing fabricated structural steel, weld cracks, prestressed concrete beams, reinforced concrete bridge deck, bridge railing, guiderail, and steel sign supports; and replacing existing expansion joints, seal existing deck joints, and existing strip seal glands on the bridge decks.

Work on the substructures will include repairing or reconstructing bearing pedestals, steel fixed bearings, and deteriorated portions of concrete substructure; cleaning bridge seats; resetting expansion bearings; and removing debris from under the bridges.

In addition to bridge repairs, 11 overhead steel sign structures will be cleaned and repainted. Existing roadway lighting will also be upgraded to LED luminaires. 

Trail Construction Continues on Ellis Road in Middletown Township

PennDOT announced that trail construction continues on Ellis Road in Middletown Township, Bucks County, under a local safety improvement project.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday lane closure with flagging is scheduled on Ellis Road between Fulling Mill Road and Woodbourne Road for stone installation and structure placement.

PECO Utility Improvement to Close Brownsville Road in Bensalem, Lower Southampton Townships

PennDOT announced that PECO Energy will be performing utility construction on Brownsville Road in Bensalem and Lower Southampton townships, beginning Monday, November 10.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, November 10, through Friday, February 27, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning, Brownsville Road will be closed and detoured weeknights between Bristol Road and Knable Lane. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Bristol Road, Old Lincoln Highway, and Route 132 (Street Road).

Local access will be maintained. 

PECO Energy will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

PA Turnpike Bridge Construction to Close Newportville Road in Bristol, Bensalem Townships                                            

PennDOT announced that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is planning bridge construction on Newportville Road in Bristol and Bensalem townships, Bucks County, beginning Monday, November 10.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, November 10, through Friday, November 21, Newportville Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Zimmerman Lane and New Falls Road.

Local access will be maintained. 

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will complete this work under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near these work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
