Canine Ambassador Award in Honor of our Dog, Bulmers

On Friday, my family and I were honored to have The Humane Society of the United States in Pennsylvania present us with a Canine Ambassador Award in honor of our dog Bulmers, who passed away last month.

On the plaque it reads: ‘In recognition of his unbounded love that inspired the hearts and minds of advocates, coalitions partners, and legislators to help PA’s animals.’

Joining us on Friday at my Langhorne district office was my wife Kristen and son Jacob, Humane Society of the United States in Pennsylvania Director, Kristen Tullo along with members of their team, Karen Robbins from Women’s Animal Center, Lucy Noland, former Fox 29 anchor, Jack, a soon to be therapy dog, and Rep. KC Tomlinson, Rep. Kristin Marcell, and Rep. Shelby Labs.

Bulmers, AKA Mr. B, Bulmies, the PA Capitol Dog, led a very unique life. He was in the Capitol regularly for many years including being in the company of two governors, appearing at rallies and advocacy days for animal welfare legislation, and being with me as I was named the Humane Society’s Legislator of the year.

Bulmers appeared in support of numerous efforts for the Humane Society, including on their social media and the title “PA Capitol Dog.” He also got to check out a bunch of cool things and events at the Capitol including getting to meet Penn State Football Coach and 1990 Neshaminy graduate, James Franklin.

Perhaps the most memorable work he did was advocating for Libre’s law, which was the most comprehensive rewrite of PA’s animal cruelty statute in history. Bulmers had the opportunity to join Governor Wolf and legislators at the bill signing for this historic law.

I have been successful in passing major animal welfare initiatives in Harrisburg over the years.  One of my most proud is  Act 104 of 2018 or Motor Vehicle Extreme Heat Protection Act/Pets in Hot Cars Act, which prohibits the confinement of a dog or cat in an unattended motor vehicle in a manner that would endanger the health and well-being of the animal.

I want to thank The Humane Society for recognizing Bulmers and for all they do, and I will continue to advocate with them for the welfare of animals as there is still work that needs to be done.

The Humane Society also made a generous donation in honor of Bulmers to Women’s Animal Center in Bensalem.
