Supporting Our Volunteer Fire Companies

At Warwick Township Fire Company No. 1’s Fire Prevention Open House on Friday night I presented a $1 million check to Chief Aaron McCarty toward a new fire truck that will replace an aging vehicle in their fleet. PA State Rep. Kristin Marcell and I are proud to have been able to secure this funding.

Over the past two weeks, I also visited several other Fire Prevention Open Houses across the 6th Senatorial District and presented additional funding checks. Together with State Reps. Marcell, Tomlinson and Hogan, we secured more than $700,000 in state funding for volunteer fire and EMS companies throughout the district. I understand firsthand the growing challenges our volunteer fire departments face and remain committed to supporting those who keep our communities safe.

Congratulations to New Eagle Scout

Earlier this month, I was honored to join Grace Arner for her Eagle Scout Court of Honor — the highest achievement in Scouting.

Grace, a Richboro resident and member of Troop 147, was recognized for her incredible leadership and community service. I was proud to present her with a PA Senate citation in celebration of this well-deserved honor.

For her Eagle Scout project, “Scouting for Instruments,” Grace organized a drive to collect musical instruments for students in need and hosted a benefit recital to help cover repair costs — a wonderful example of creativity and compassion in action. She has also served numerous leadership roles, including Chaplain Aide, Den Chief, Quartermaster, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Ockanickon Camp Staff.

Congratulations to Grace on this remarkable achievement.

Breast Cancer Awareness High School Events

It was great to join the Girls Volleyball teams at William Tennent High School and Archbishop Wood High School for their Breast Cancer Awareness games last week. I shared how breast cancer affected my family and how I am continuing the fight in Harrisburg with Senate Bill 88 to expand insurance coverage for breast cancer screenings, including MRIs and ultrasounds, with no out-of-pocket costs – another major step forward in early detection and access to care.

Give Your Feedback on PennDOT Construction, Maintenance Services

Through Oct. 21, motorists can take an online survey to give their feedback on Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) construction and maintenance services.

The 22-question survey asks participants how they receive PennDOT roadway information and how often PennDOT meets or exceeds expectations in construction and maintenance activities. Respondents are also asked about experiences with reporting concerns to the department, and whether or how they use the state’s 511PA traveler information services.

PennDOT is directly responsible for nearly 40,000 miles of highway and 25,400 bridges. A summary of recent projects and funds spent can be found in the 2024 Annual Report.

Financial Literacy Competition for Students K-12th

The Pennsylvania Auditor General is offering a Financial Literacy Competition for Pennsylvania students in grades K-12. They are asking them to help design the cover of their new Be Money $mart activity book. The book will include coloring pages, financial literacy focused word searches, word scrambles, crosswords, and budgeting sheets – all focused on financial literacy.

The winner’s artwork will be featured on the cover of this new activity book, will be recognized at the PA Farm Show, and will win their class/school a visit from the Pennsylvania Auditor General. The activity book will be distributed statewide at our Farm Show booth and through libraries, YMCAs, and credit unions. Deadline to enter is October 31 and more information about the competition can be found on their website: https://www.paauditor.gov/take-action/be-money-smart/activitybook/
