In this Update:
Remembering Three Police Officers Killed in the Line of DutyThree police officers were killed and two wounded serving a warrant Sept. 17 in York County, a heartbreaking reminder of the risk faced every day by those standing on the thin blue line between order and chaos. The fallen officers, Detective Mark Baker, Sgt. Detective Cody Becker and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser, were members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department. Their shocking deaths highlight how crucial it is to stand behind law enforcement officers and give them the tools and support they need to serve communities in the safest manner possible. May their families find comfort in this incredibly trying time. Upcoming Veterans MusterI’m excited to host a Veterans Muster for veterans and their families in the 6th Senate District. This event will serve as a one-stop shop of resources for the veteran community – and a meaningful way to thank them for their service. Featured will be Rob Lithgow from the PA Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, an accredited Veteran Service Officer, and a variety of vendors offering veteran information and support. No registration is required. Please contact our office at 215-638-1784 with any questions. Thank You for Attending My Senior ExpoYesterday, I hosted my annual Senior Expo, where more than 700 seniors joined us to connect with local, state, and federal agencies and gather valuable information. If you couldn’t attend, our office is always here to help – please do not hesitate to reach out with any state-related questions. Do You Have Unclaimed Property?I was pleased to join PA Deputy Treasurer Julie Peachey, Bucks County Controller Pam Van Blunk, Sheriff Fred Harran, and several of my House colleagues at our Senior Expo to raise awareness about unclaimed property. Treasury staff found almost $20,000 in unclaimed property for our attendees at our Expo. Do You Have Unclaimed Property?
Unclaimed property includes dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policies, and forgotten safe deposit box contents. By law, businesses must turn these assets over to Treasury after three years of dormancy. For Bucks County unclaimed property, you can search Bucks County Controller’s Unclaimed Funds | Bucks County, PA. For Pennsylvania unclaimed property, you can search Unclaimed Property Home or contact our office for assistance. Reporting School Threats AnonymouslyAnother school year is underway, and the Safe2Say Something program, which was created from legislation I co-authored, is available to train students and school employees how to recognize warning signs from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others, and to anonymously report the threat before it is too late. I co-authored legislation to create this program. Once a tip is reported, a crisis center assesses it and sends it to school administrators and/or law enforcement for intervention. This youth violence prevention program is run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Since 2019, the Safe2Say Something tipline has received more than 178,000 tips covering threats to schools, bullying and potential self-harm.
