In This Update:
Preparing The Next Generation of First RespondersI was thrilled to secure the state funding and partner with Bucks County Community College, Bucks County Emergency Health Services, and local high schools to launch a Fire and Emergency Services Co-op program for high school seniors. I stopped by the class at the Lower Bucks Public Safety Training Center last week and had a chance to share my experiences, give some guidance, and talk about the various options for this career path. This no-cost program provides:
The Fire and Emergency Services Co-Op Program is not only for students interested in joining a fire department or ambulance squad, but also for students already involved in a volunteer fire and/or EMS company who would like additional training. It will also be beneficial for students who want to get a jump-start on a college degree, want to be able to apply for a live-in program near a college or university, or those needing the industry minimum to get hired as an EMT, firefighter, dispatcher, nurse, physician assistant, and other similar careers. EMS providers, municipal fire departments, county 911 centers, and law enforcement agencies are always seeking qualified candidates with the type of skills the co-op offers. As a long-time firefighter, I know firsthand the difficulty recruitment can be. This program gives students real-world skills while preparing them for critical roles in public safety. I am looking forward to seeing this program succeed and supporting its growth. Congratulations to Chief Godzieba on his RetirementLanghorne Borough’s Police Chief, John Godzieba is retiring after an over 45-year career in law enforcement, including the past 8 years leading Langhorne Borough’s department. I was honored to present him with a Pennsylvania Senate citation recognizing this incredible milestone. Earlier this summer, I presented Chief with state funding Rep. Hogan and I secured for a new patrol bike and UTV for the department. I want to congratulate Chief on his remarkable career and thank him for his service to our community. Future Leader Experiences the CapitolIt was great to welcome Council Rock North Sophomore Michael Telegin to the Senate floor last week. He had a full-day experience, including attending a committee meeting and a tour of the Capitol. Michael is class president, involved in Mini Thon, Model UN, FBLA, plays varsity and AAA ice hockey, started a sports broadcast program at school, author on several books, and even launched his own think tank. With his passion for law and politics, the future is looking bright for Michael. Measure to Help Veteran-Owned Businesses Approved by SenateBeyond serving our nation in the military, many veterans create jobs through their entrepreneurial spirit. We approved legislation to promote these veteran-owned businesses. Senate Bill 64 would authorize the creation of a special logo to promote veteran-owned businesses. To be eligible, a business must be registered with the Department of State and at least 51% of the ownership interest must be held by a veteran, reservist or member of the National Guard. To discourage the logo from being used fraudulently, anyone who falsely claims to be a veteran to obtain this designation would face a misdemeanor of the third degree. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Happy Rosh HashanahRosh Hashanah begins Monday at sundown. To everyone celebrating the Jewish New Year, I hope it brings thoughtful reflection, personal growth and renewed hope.
