Our Shredding Event is Tomorrow at Bensalem High SchoolRep. Tomlinson and I are hosting a free community shredding event tomorrow from 10 a.m. until noon at Bensalem High School, located at 4319 Hulmeville Ave. Residents are encouraged to bring documents that contain sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, medical information or bank account numbers, to be thoroughly shredded. Due to high demand, individuals are limited to two file boxes of paper to be shredded. Please do not place your paper in plastic bags as it cannot be shredded. This is an event for residents only, no businesses, please. Prior to the event, please place all shredding materials and donation items in the trunk of your vehicle. Once you arrive, stay in your vehicle and staff will assist with removing the materials. We will also be accepting donations of pet food and supplies in partnership with Women’s Animal Center. Please review the below links for what they can accept for the food pantry and supplies they use in the shelter. Have Your Voice Heard on Woodbourne Road Rail CrossingPennDOT is studying the Woodbourne Road and Township Line/Big Oak Road rail crossings—two crossings in our area that have long caused major congestion, delays, and safety concerns in our community. The Woodbourne crossing, in particular, has been a persistent problem for residents, businesses, schools, and first responders. Driver frustration has sometimes led to dangerous turnarounds and trespassing through closed gates. Now, through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Crossing Elimination Program, your voice can help shape solutions. The study will evaluate options ranging from upgrades and congestion reduction to grade separation or even closure. Find out more about the study here. Comments on the study or general input can be provided using the feedback form or directly by email to RA-PDpassengerrail@pa.gov. National Crime Prevention WeekA key role as lawmaker is passing legislation to combat crime and keep our communities safe. We rely on police to enforce those laws and the justice system to impose punishment when appropriate. Last session, my colleagues in the House and I introduced a package of bills to address crime, working closely with former Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub and current Bucks County District Attorney Jen Schorn and law enforcement. Two of those bills are now law – criminalizes porch pirating and enhancing the penalties on street racing. We’re focused on advancing the remaining bills which would: increase penalties for gun store robberies, increase penalties on rioters and rioting organizers, add protection for delivery drivers, enforce mandatory jail time for felons found to be illegally in possession of a firearm, expand DNA samples in the criminal justice system, and put a stop to catalytic converter robberies. National Crime Prevention Week is a reminder that citizens play a vital role. The National Crime Prevention Council offers these crime prevention and personal safety tips to help you and your community outsmart potential lawbreakers.
