In this Update:
More than $1.5 Million in Grants to Improve Transportation in the 6th Senate DistrictI am pleased to announce more than $1.5 million in grants from the Multimodal Transportation Fund were awarded to improve safety in the district. Warwick Township was awarded a $1.5 million grant for the reconstruction of the bridge carrying Valley Road over a tributary of Neshaminy Creek. Lower Southampton Township was awarded $41,790 to upgrade two school speed zones with LED and high-visibility signage with radar speed notification and traffic camera monitoring capabilities. I am committed to supporting the safety of our communities and am pleased to have helped secure the funding along with Rep. Marcell and Rep. Hogan for these important projects in my district. The reconstruction of the bridge in Warwick and the school speed zone upgrades in Lower Southampton will improve the safety, welfare and quality of life of our community for years to come. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides financial assistance to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities. By improving transportation assets, this program seeks to enhance communities, pedestrian safety and transit revitalization. $350,000 Grant Secured for Bensalem Township Police Department to Improve Regional SWAT CapabilitiesAlong with Reps. Tomlinson, Marcell, Labs, Hogan, and Staats, we are happy to announce we were able to secure $350,000 in state funding for Bensalem Township Police Department to acquire a Lenco BearCat. The state-of-the-art armored rescue vehicle will serve all three Bucks County regional special units and tactical (SWAT) teams. The Lenco BearCat is a critical tool designed for modern law enforcement. It enables tactical officers to safely approach and manage hostile situations, safeguarding civilians and officers during high-risk incidents such as terrorist threats, hostage scenarios and large-scale confrontations. Currently, Bucks County’s three SWAT teams share a single BearCat that has been in service for more than15 years. Housed in central Bucks County, this vehicle often has a response time of up to two hours, particularly for incidents in the southern part of the county. The addition of a new BearCat, stationed in Bensalem Township, will drastically reduce response times, particularly in the densely populated southern regions of the county. The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community and Economic Assistance Program. As your elected official, public safety has been one of my top priorities and I am thrilled we were able to secure the funding for the safety of Bucks County residents and law enforcement officers.
