Woodbourne Train Station Update

Over the years, Rep Hogan and I have heard from residents about their frustrations relating to blocked crossings and idling CSX trains at the Woodbourne Road Rail Crossing in Middletown Township. We are pleased to share that that The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is moving forward with a study on this crossing.

Through federal legislation, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, PennDOT was able to apply for a grant through the Federal Railroad Administration to study the impacts and effects of crossings. The department picked three crossings to study in the entire Commonwealth. Two of the three crossings chosen for the study are the Township Line and Woodbourne Road crossings. Rep. Hogan and I have been in communication with PennDOT and understand this study is finally moving forward, PennDOT executed the grant agreement with the Federal Railroad Administration and selected a consultant to administer the study. We also have been working closely with Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick on this important issue, who was instrumental in securing the funding for the study.

While the Federal Railroad Administration, under the U.S. Department of Transportation, has jurisdiction over these issues we have been working closely with our federal counterparts while also exploring and advocating for avenues towards possible solutions at the state level. We have met with CSX numerous times, explored legislative options at the state level and advocated for possible solutions.

As more information on the study becomes available, we will be sure to share it with the community. While not a solution, this is a step in the right direction to continue to bring state and national attention to this issue and therefore hopefully come up with a permanent solution to solve this problem.

Currently, please feel free to direct any complaints about this issue, including blocked crossings and idling trains to the Federal Railroad Administration at Federal Railroad Administration Alleged Violation Reporting Form | FRA (dot.gov) .We will advocate for these complaints made to the Federal Railroad Administration be used in the PennDOT study.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office should you have any questions.

PA Treasurer Stacy Garrity Returns to 6th Senate District

It was an honor to have State Treasurer Stacy Garrity return to the 6th Senate District to speak to our constituents about the valuable programs PA Treasury has to offer and help them search and claim their unclaimed property at our State Services Day last Friday. The event was held at the Neshaminy Activity Center in Feasterville and was hosted by State Reps. Marcell, Tomlinson, and Hogan and myself.  We were able to recover tens of thousands of dollars of our constituents unclaimed property in one day. Over $200,000 of our constituent’s combined unclaimed property was returned to them at our State Services Day Event last year.

Unclaimed property can include things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, insurance policies, tangible property like contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes and more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy. The average value of a claim is $1,600.

I encourage anyone who could not attend our events and may think they have unclaimed property to contact our office for assistance.  You may also check online at:  https://www.patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property/

Our staff also assisted with state services, including processing senior SEPTA applications, birth and death certificate applications, and property tax and rent rebate applications.
