Protecting our Delivery Drivers

This week, I visited UPS headquarters in Horsham to speak with drivers about legislation I am working on to better protect delivery drivers and postal workers. The bill was inspired by Heather, a constituent and UPS driver, whose experience with a dangerous on-the-job incident brought attention to the risks these workers face. Thankfully, Heather is okay, but her experience shed light on the vulnerability of delivery drivers, who often work alone and face unpredictable risks every day.

This legislation aims to classify delivery drivers and postal workers as protected classes under the law when it comes to assaults. Specifically, it would create stronger penalties for individuals who intentionally attempt to cause bodily harm to these workers while they are performing their duties.

Our delivery drivers play an essential role in our communities, and they deserve to feel safe while doing their jobs and I am committed to advancing legislation that protects them.

National Night Out Events in the 6th Senate District

I had the opportunity to join our community for four incredible National Night Out Events in my Senate district this past Tuesday in Penndel Borough, Lower Southampton Township, Middletown Township, and Bensalem Township.

It’s always special to see neighbors, families, and first responders come together to celebrate community and connection.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these nights possible – and a big thank you to our local law enforcement for all you do to keep our community safe every day.

I am pictured here with Bensalem Council members Stacey Champion, Michelle Benitez, and Bucks County Sherrif Fred Harran.

Protecting Yourself on Facebook Marketplace

Transactions through social media platforms have limited consumer protections compared to traditional business dealings, and scams happen.

In a recent case, a Fayette County family was scammed with fake cash when selling a floor buffer on Facebook Marketplace. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.

There are steps you can take to protect yourself with Facebook Marketplace, such as checking the seller’s Marketplace profile to learn more about them, using online payment methods and verifying the item before paying. Check out more tips here.

Planning a PA Capitol Visit

Your Pennsylvania Capitol is not only the seat of state government, it’s also an architectural and artistic treasure to be experienced by citizens from across the commonwealth.

Visitors are welcome to explore the building at their leisure on regular weekdays. You can also schedule a tour with a guide. Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes.

You can plan a visit and book a tour of this 119-year-old National Historic Landmark here.

Our Next Shredding Event is September 6

Rep. Tomlinson and I are hosting a free community shredding event on September 6 from 10 a.m. until noon at Bensalem High School, located at 4319 Hulmeville Ave.

Residents are encouraged to bring documents that contain sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, medical information or bank account numbers, to be thoroughly shredded.

We will also be accepting donations of pet food and supplies in partnership with Women’s Animal Center.

Please review the below links for what they can accept for the food pantry and supplies they use in the shelter. Items not on the list would have to be disposed of at expense to the Center:

Supply the shelter wish list of acceptable items:
