Update on Shooting at Oxford Valley Mall

Our office has received numerous calls about the incident that occurred at the Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne last night. I wanted to provide you with an update.

Before the storm hit our area last night, numerous police, fire, and ems agencies were dispatched for the report of an active shooter incident at the Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne.  As the chief of Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, I was one of the first to arrive on scene.

Thankfully we soon learned that the shooting was targeted as the offender and victim knew each other and it was not a mass shooting. The shooter fled the area immediately and the victim was taken to the hospital.

Thank you to all of the first responders who promptly responded to control the situation and render aid if needed. Many of those first responders then spent the evening responding to storm related incidents.

Further updates can be found on Middletown Police Department’s Facebook page.

PECO Storm Restoration Update

PECO has provided us an update on their restoration efforts following the severe weather last night.  As of this email, they have restored 50% of the outages reported. Bucks County alone had 463 outages reported, with just under 32,000 customers still affected.

First, I want to thank all of the utility workers, public works staff, first responders, and 911 dispatchers who worked in challenging conditions last night and continue to work today to restore power and keep our community safe.

PECO’s focus is restoring customers without power, starting with critical facilities, and working outages with the highest numbers of customers off down to single customers. Due to the extensive impact of the storm, they expect this to be a multi-day restoration effort, lasting through the weekend.

You can report outages or down wires to on PECO’s website at www.peco.com/outages or call 1-800-841-4141. We understand due to the volume of calls, people have had trouble getting through to them via their hotline. Here are some ways to stay connected and receive updates:

  • Customers also can easily report issues with electric service at peco.com using their phone, tablet or computer or through PECO’s mobile app.
  • PECO’s free mobile app allows customers to easily access their account information on the go. The PECO free mobile app is available through the App Store or Google Play.
  • Through their customer preference center, PECO customers can choose to receive a message via text, email or phone, when power is out in their area, when power is restored, or when the estimated restoration time for their outage changes. Customers should visit peco.com/alerts to sign up.
  • PECO also has a two-way texting program for outages. By texting “ADDOUTAGE” to MYPECO (697326), customers can enroll in the program, report outages and check the status of their outage through text messaging. To use this service a customer’s mobile number must be registered with their account.

Warwick Township Recreation Station Now Open

I was pleased to join the Warwick Community for the Grand Opening of the New Recreation Station at Warwick Township Community Park this past Tuesday.

The beautiful, revitalized playground includes modern play structures, new sunshades, and native tree plantings. PA State Rep. Kristin Marcell and I were thrilled to secure $510,000 in state funding for this project that will certainly be enjoyed by families in our community for years to come.

Senate Votes to Combat Overregulation

To address overregulation that stifles business growth and drives jobs to other states, the Senate passed two regulatory reform bills.

The Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, Senate Bill 333, would establish an enhanced legislative review process for costly new regulations. It is designed to address concerns about unchecked regulatory burdens on businesses, communities and taxpayers.

Senate Bill 444 would establish a one-time automatic review process for regulations that impose a fiscal impact exceeding $1 million annually on taxpayers or employers. The review would ensure regulations remain effective, efficient and in the public interest.

Both bills now move to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Bill Targeting Rise of Deepfake Scams Approved by Senate

The Senate unanimously voted to stem the rise of “deepfakes” and other forms of digital impersonation by treating them as forgeries punishable by law.

Technology enables individuals to create convincing images, audio and video of others – often without consent – that are nearly indistinguishable from reality. These digital forgeries have been used to commit financial scams and injure personal reputations.

Senate Bill 649 would enact penalties for anyone who creates a digital representation of a real person without their consent and distributes it as genuine to defraud or injure. The measure would protect First Amendment rights and preserve valid expressions of parody, satire and other forms of free speech. Senate Bill 649 is now before the House of Representatives for consideration.
