In this Update:
Bucks County Community College Firefighter GraduationI had the honor of being the keynote speaker at The Bucks County Community College Firefighter Graduation earlier this week. 90 volunteer firefighters were honored who completed national certification training through the Public Safety Training Center at the college. As fire chief of Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company and an active member of the organization for 35 years, I know firsthand how challenging it is to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters. I commend the college, its instructors and the students for their exemplary commitment and dedication to the fire service. I have long championed legislative efforts on behalf of our fire departments and EMS organizations, and I will continue to be a strong advocate to ensure they have access to the necessary programs and resources. Supporting these essential services is critical to maximizing public safety and protecting the dedicated individuals who serve and keep our communities safe. Elle’s Angels Foundation Angel Dash for DIPGThis past weekend, I was pleased (along with our new puppy, Harper Barkley) to attend the annual Elle’s Angels Foundation Angels Dash for DIPG at Core Creek Park. The Caruso family once again organized a fantastic event in honor and memory of their daughter, Elle. All proceeds go to fund critical research for pediatric brain cancer. Senate Votes to Improve Communication About School Safety IssuesTo empower parents and increase transparency, the Senate passed legislation to improve reporting requirements about potentially dangerous situations at schools. Senate Bill 246 would require parental and employee notification when there is a weapon on any school property that violates its weapons policy, as well as when there are cases of harassment and bullying. It would apply to public, non-public and private schools. Current law does not require school districts to inform parents about incidents when a weapon is brought onto school grounds or to related activities. The bill is part of a larger initiative to empower families and foster safe communities. It moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
