In this Update:
Our Shredding Event is Tomorrow Rain or ShineTo help residents guard themselves against identity theft, Rep. Marcell and I will be hosting a free community paper shredding event tomorrow Saturday, April 26 from 10 am- 12:30 pm at The Runway at Warminster Community Park, located at 350 East Bristol Road in Warminster. Residents of the 6th Senate District are encouraged to bring documents that contain sensitive information to be thoroughly shredded. Please place boxes in your trunk of your car ahead of the event and once you enter the line, you may stay in your car, and our staff will remove the boxes. The event is rain or shine. Please note this event is for residents only, no businesses, please. Due to high demand, there is a limit of three file boxes of paper per individual to be shredded. We cannot accept plastic bags. For the event, you will enter at the traffic light at Hatboro and Bristol Rd. Once in the park, the line for the shredding will be on your right on the runway. $13 Million Grant Approved for Clean Drinking Water for Northampton Township ResidentsI am proud to have partnered with Rep. Marcell and Rep. Hogan in supporting a $13 million grant awarded to the Northampton Bucks County Municipal Authority (NBCMA) from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for clean drinking water for hundreds of Northampton Township residents. Due to past activities that took place at the Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster facility neighboring Northampton Township, significant groundwater contamination issues were found that exceeded maximum contaminant levels proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). NBCMA will use this funding to extend public water system service to 334 residences in the Churchville Manor and Hillside Manor subdivisions of Northampton Township. The work includes the construction of an 8-inch water main, water service connections, fire hydrant and flushing station installations, and trench restoration. Treatment upgrades will also be made to all the public wells that supply the system. NBCMA also received a low interest loan in the amount of $6,876,873 to fund the remaining scope of the project. The project is expected to start in December of this year and completed by May of 2028. Fuel the Force Gala Honoring Local Law Enforcement Officers
It was an honor to attend the Fuel the Force Gala this week to be able to show my support and celebrate our law enforcement officers from Bucks County that make so many sacrifices every day ensuring our communities are safe. Fuel the Force is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring, celebrating, and giving back to our law enforcement officers. Through their lunch program and special events, they aim to provide a platform for the community to come together and express their gratitude to these brave officers. I want to thank Fuel the Force for inviting me to this fantastic event, but more importantly for what they are doing for our men and women in blue that protect us. Students: Apply Now for Grow PA Scholarships and Improve Access for EveryonePeople across the state have felt the pain of industries with declining workforces, from the long waits to see a doctor or a skilled mechanic. We took action to address those issues – and to reduce the loss of talent as young adults begin their careers in other states, rarely to return to Pennsylvania. As part of this year’s state budget, the Grow PA Scholarship Grant Program offers grants of up to $5,000 per year for in-state students who pursue a degree or certification for an in-demand occupation. Qualifying courses of study include agriculture, computer science, business, education, special education, STEM education, engineering, nursing, allied health, criminal justice and other programs approved by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. Because the funding is being awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, it’s important to apply as soon as possible. To qualify for the grant, applicants must agree to live and work in Pennsylvania in that occupation after graduation for 12 months for each year they receive the grant. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the grant converting to a loan requiring repayment. Learn more or apply here. PA Women Veterans: Register Now for Capitol Ceremony Honoring Your ServicePennsylvania women who served in the armed forces have until May 9 to register for a state Capitol ceremony honoring their service on Tuesday, June 10. A virtual display will also be available online and will go live on June 9. The event will recognize the courage and dedication of Pennsylvania’s women veterans from World War II to the present. Women veterans from all branches of the military are encouraged to attend and take part. The first Women Veterans Day Capitol exhibit took place in 2023, after passage of legislation observing Women Veterans Day in Pennsylvania annually on June 12. New participants are encouraged to share their service stories by completing the required submission form. Veterans featured in last year’s display who wish to participate again may simply update their previous submission. How to Locate Lost Military DocumentsA veteran’s DD214 is a vital document when it comes to receiving the benefits they deserve. It provides the member and the branch of service with a concise record of a period of time with the armed forces at the time of the member’s separation, discharge or change in military status. Veterans discharged from 2010 and after can access their own digital records by setting up an account through the VA e-Benefits portal. Veterans who were discharged before then may complete the Standard Form 180, which includes mailing instructions on the last page. They may also visit the National Archives and Records Administration site to submit a signed form electronically. Anyone who needs assistance is encouraged to call 1-800-547-2838, email RA-REQ@pg.gov or learn more online.
