Statement on Attack on Governor Shapiro

I wanted to stress my concern on the act of violence perpetrated against Governor Shapiro and his family after a Passover dinner this past weekend. First, I am glad that the governor and his family were unharmed and safe, and grateful to our first responders for their quick action extinguishing the fire and to the Pennsylvania State Police for evacuating the governor and his family, and identifying and taking into custody the man responsible.

As more information has been shared about the perpetrator, we learned that the attack may have been targeted because of the governor’s religious beliefs. This type of violence on a public official or any person is unacceptable and has no place in our society. I continue to remain extremely concerned about the rise in hateful violence and rhetoric. We all need to work together to stop it.

Our Shredding Event is Saturday April 26

To help residents guard themselves against identity theft, Rep. Marcell and I will be hosting a free community paper shredding event next Saturday, April 26 from 10 am- 12:30 pm at The Runway at Warminster Community Park, located at 350 East Bristol Road in Warminster.

Residents of the 6th Senate District are encouraged to bring documents that contain sensitive information to be thoroughly shredded.

Please note this event is for residents only, no businesses, please. Due to high demand, there is a limit of three file boxes of paper per individual to be shredded. We cannot accept plastic bags.

For the event, you will enter at the traffic light at Hatboro and Bristol Rd.  Once in the park, the line for the shredding will be on your right on the runway.

Medication Take Back Day

Saturday, April 26 is Medication Take Bay Day. Before or after you shred your documents at our event, you can safely dispose of unused, unneeded or expired medications. Visit one of the sites located in Bucks County from 10 am – 2 pm. Find a location near you and see what’s accepted: Welcome to Bucks County, PA | Official Website

Visit at Genesio Company

I joined Rep. Tomlinson and members of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union Local 19 for a tour of a local Heating and Air Conditioning manufacturing facility, Genesio Company. Genesio Company, located in Ivyland, works on many large-scale projects, such as schools and hospitals. Their 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility offers a vast range of capacity with many automated pieces of manufacturing equipment allowing them to be able to fabricate those large-scale projects simultaneously. Genesio prides themselves on providing the best possible service to their customers and paying their skilled and trained employees well. Genesio is a Pennsylvania manufacturing company, employing up to 70 Pennsylvania residents annually.

As more fabrication on public projects is completed offsite, last session I was proud to introduce legislation along with Sen. Targatlione (D-Philadelphia) to ensure offsite custom fabrication on public projects is covered under existing Pennsylvania law. We will be reintroducing the legislation again in the near future.

Voter Registration Deadline is May 5

The deadline to register to vote in Pennsylvania’s May 20 primary election is Monday, May 5. Your county election office must receive your application for a mail-in or absentee ballot by Tuesday, May 13, at 5 p.m.

To legally register, individuals must be a citizen of the United States, reside in their local voting precincts at least 30 days prior to the election and be at least age 18 on Election Day, Tuesday, May 20. Once registered to vote, you are not required to register again unless you change your residence, name or political party affiliation.

Voter registration forms, mail-in ballot applications and absentee ballot applications are available here or from your local county’s Board of Elections. You can also use the site to check your registration status.

REAL ID to Replace Driver’s License as Federally Acceptable ID on May 7

Beginning May 7, Pennsylvanians who wish to board flights, visit military bases and enter certain federal facilities will be required to present a form of federally accepted identification. Options include a passport, military ID or a REAL ID.

To make it more convenient for Pennsylvanians to get a REAL ID, PennDOT is offering dedicated time at some driver license centers on April 28 and May 5. Both REAL ID Days are on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

This a reminder, that you can still apply for your REAL ID after May 7th, so if you do not plan to travel on or shortly after this date or need federal access you can apply at your convenience.

You do not need to wait until your driver license renews to get a REAL ID. To get one, you must provide documents proving your identity, lawful status, Social Security number and Pennsylvania residency. Review the list of acceptable documents. All documents must be original versions or certified copies (if applicable).
