America250 PA Essay Contest Winner

We recently had “General George Washington” visit our district office to randomly select on Facebook LIVE our America250 PA essay contest winner from 12 outstanding finalists. The winner of the contest is Council Rock South High School junior, Sarah Xue. Sarah’s essay about Alexander Hamilton was very well-written.

The contest was open to all high school students in the 6th Senatorial district, and we asked them to write about the historical figure from the Founding era that inspires them most. I am looking forward to Sarah joining me at a special Pennsylvania Senate ceremony celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary on May 5 at the National Constitution Center.

A panel of educators and veterans helped select the finalists from many competitive and thoughtful essays. All the entries were exceptionally strong, and the finalists’ work truly stood out for its creativity, clarity, and personal connection to the historical figure.

The finalists were from 5 local high schools in the 6th Senatorial district: Bensalem High School, Neshaminy High School, Council Rock South High School, Central Bucks East High School, and Holy Ghost Prep High School.

I’m grateful to all the students who participated and to the teachers who encouraged them, especially Mr. Nicholas Lyczkowski from Bensalem High School, whose support brought in an exceptional number of entries.

PennDOT Rail Crossing Study Update

If you live in Middletown Township, you most likely have been affected by a blocked crossing or an idling CSX train at the Woodbourne Road Rail Crossing.

You may remember my last update in August 2024 informing you that PennDOT was approved to conduct a study to improve safety and reduce delays at the Woodbourne Road and Township Line Road rail crossings in Middletown Township. The study is partially funded by a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Rail Crossing Elimination program grant. I promised that I would keep the residents informed regarding this issue.

Over the past year, AI‑enabled cameras collected data on train activity, traffic backups, and gate closures. PennDOT also worked with CSX, SEPTA, and other rail operators to understand train schedules and operations.

With data collection completed, PennDOT is now developing possible improvement options. A public update meeting is planned for this summer. I will continue to keep you updated on this matter.

Hearing and Vison Services in Bucks County

Recently, Rep. Joe Hogan and I met with resident advocates who are concerned about access to care for children ages 0-3 with hearing or vision loss in Bucks County. This meeting came after conflicting information was circulating relating to providing of these services. After a great meeting, I wanted to share information on the group these advocates have created.

Please see above flyer and email Jill Waldbieser: BucksBabiesMatter@gmail.com with any questions or use this link to share your information: https://forms.gle/Bode4xkE4zfQ9FaEA.

Upcoming Shredding Events

I’ve partnered with local state representatives to host three upcoming community shredding events.

Beware of Investment Scams on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp

Fraudulent investment schemes are appearing on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp featuring recognizable figures, like Cathie Wood (Ark Invest), Joe Kernen (CNBC) or Kevin O’Leary (CNBC) without their permission.

In these “pump and dump” schemes, victims are lured into online groups and convinced to invest in cryptocurrencies or low-priced stocks. The scammers advertise, hype and recommend buying the stocks or cryptocurrencies, increasing their prices, and then sell when the price is high, while the victims lose their money.

Attorney General Dave Sunday encourages anyone who may have been a victim of these types of scams to report it to the Bureau of Consumer Protection at 800-441-2555 or scams@attorneygeneral.gov.
