In this Harrisburg Update:
Supporting our Education Support StaffLast week in Harrisburg, I met with several constituents from PA State Education Association (PSEA). We discussed the issues affecting the support staff in public schools. These men and women serve important roles in our public education system and include roles as classroom aides, clerical staff, health support staff, food service, maintenance personnel, bus drivers, and custodial staff. Increasing Awareness for 988 – Suicide & Crisis LifelineI also met with the Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA). We discussed opportunities for what can be done in Harrisburg to increase awareness for 988, the suicide and crisis lifeline. I look forward to continuing the conversation with API PA and supporting legislation that would ensure individuals in crisis get the help they need, before it’s too late. Unfortunately, not many people know that if they are in a crisis, they can call 9-8-8. Whether you or someone you know is facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or just need someone to talk to, their caring counselors are there for you. Supporting our Homecare Workers and Those They ServeI had the opportunity to speak about the importance of our seniors and those with disabilities having access to homecare. Homecare allows these individuals to remain in their home rather than having to live in a facility. This option is both compassionate as well as more affordable for those in need of care. American Institute of Architects PAI was pleased to meet with board members of the American Institute of Architects Pennsylvania (AIA PA) last week at the Capitol. We discussed key policy issues affecting the architecture profession and their industry. Local Athlete Named to Big 33 RosterI met with Eddie Bowen at the Capitol last week, defensive end from Central Bucks South Football, who will be representing Pennsylvania in the Big 33 Football Classic. CB South Football had a great season and a lot of it had to do with Eddie. He accumulated 75 tackles, including a team-high 18.5 tackles for loss and setting the single-season school record in sacks with 12. Eddie was named the 2024 Courier Times/Intelligencer Defensive Player of the Year. Originating in 1957, the Big 33 Football Classic is one of the nation’s finest scholastic All-Star Football Games, currently showcasing Pennsylvania and Maryland’s premier football players. Now into its sixth decade, the Football Classic is often described as “The Super Bowl of High School Football.” I would like to extend my congratulations again to Eddie and wish him the best of luck in the game as well as in all his future endeavors. |
