Life Sciences PA State Official of the Year

I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized by Life Sciences PA as their State Official of the Year for my leadership and contributions to the life sciences community. Supporting Pennsylvania’s life sciences community has been truly meaningful, whether through my role as chair of the Senate Institutional Sustainability and Innovation Committee, as co-chair of the Life Sciences Caucus, or through my legislative work. In November 2025, my legislation expanding access to no-cost breast cancer screenings was signed into law. Senate Bill 88, now Act 52 of 2025, eliminates all out-of-pocket costs for diagnostic breast MRI’s, mammograms, and ultrasounds for Pennsylvanians insured under state law.

Life Sciences PA represents more than 900 organizations across the commonwealth’s life sciences sector, including biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, research institutions, investors, and service providers that support innovation in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania is home to a thriving life sciences ecosystem. Statewide, the industry supports 102,000 direct jobs, delivers $18.4 billion in wages, and encompasses 3,009 business establishments, contributing a $61.9 billion direct annual economic impact. In the 6th Senatorial District, life sciences companies maintain 164 vendor relationships, representing more than $109.5 million in spending.

I am proud to support an industry that plays such a transformational role in our economy, our communities, and the future of medical innovation. These individuals and companies are working every day to discover the next cure, treatment, medical device, or life-saving medicine.

I would also like to congratulate Congressman Fitzpatrick on being named Federal Official of the Year. It was an honor to join Congressman Fitzpatrick and many leaders and innovators in the life sciences industry at Life Sciences PA’s Annual Dinner and Showcase.

State Funding for Northampton Bucks County Municipal Authority

I was proud to secure almost $500,000 in state funding, along with State Reps. Marcell and Hogan for Northampton Bucks County Municipal Authority (NBCMA). The Authority will use the funds to line independent sewer laterals to strengthen their infrastructure and ensure reliable water and sewer services for the residents of Northampton. Pat Caimano, member of Rep. Marcell’s staff, and I had the pleasure of presenting the check last week to Mike Sullivan, Executive Director, NBCMA and Vince Deon, Board Chair, NBCMA.

Honoring Retiring Parks and Recreation Director

I was proud to honor Paul Kopera for his more than 20 years of dedicated service to our community as Director of Middletown Twp Parks & Recreation. His leadership and commitment helped strengthen and enrich our community in countless ways that will benefit the residents of Middletown Township for years to come. Congratulations to Paul on a well-deserved retirement.

Senate Acts to Address Electric Generation Shortfall, Expand Energy Development

Reliable and affordable electricity is a fundamental need for families and the businesses that provide their jobs. The Senate recently passed legislation to streamline energy generation projects and preserve the reliability of our region’s power grid.

Senate Bill 704 directs the state departments of Community and Economic Development and Environmental Protection to work together to identify suitable sites for natural gas electric generation projects. The goal is to address electricity generation shortages in the PJM power grid and attract investment by speeding up site preparation.

The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Other measures we passed to promote access to affordable energy prevented the creation of a new electricity tax and would authorize creation of a Pennsylvania Independent Energy Office to ensure a more cohesive strategy for managing energy resources.
