Bucks-Mont Collaborative’s Winter Legislative Breakfast

Last week, I joined my colleagues and local nonprofit and community leaders at Bucks-Mont Collaborative’s Legislative Breakfast. We discussed housing and behavioral health challenges facing our region and learned about the Collaborative’s policy priorities. I look forward to continuing this important conversation as we work towards real solutions for our community.

The Bucks-Mont Collaborative is a nonprofit membership organization of more than 140 health and human service providers and community partners in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Through its advocacy arm, the Collaborative Advocacy Network (CAN), the Collaborative advances shared policy priorities including housing affordability and homelessness prevention and strengthening community behavioral health systems.

Bucks County Association of Township Officials Panel Discussion

This past Saturday, I was pleased to join Rep. Hogan and other panelists for a discussion with local municipal leaders for a discussion at the Bucks County Association of Township Officials (BCATO)’s annual convention. We discussed the issues affecting our local government and ways we can work together for solutions. Among the topics discussed were electricity generation and energy investment, supporting our first responders, my Sterling Act reform legislation, land development, advertising regulations, and data centers.

Celebration for Grand Marshal of Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Over the weekend, I had the honor of recognizing Jeffry Sproehnle for being selected as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will be held on Saturday March 14th.

Jeff served the Middletown Township Police Department for thirty-nine years prior to his retirement in 2011. Prior to his retirement, he rose to the rank of Detective and managed many notable cases serving residents of Middletown Township and Bucks County. A long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Jeff served as Division 1 President for eight years, stepping down in 2025. He has been instrumental in supporting fundraising efforts such as the Hibernian Hunger Project and initiatives benefiting veterans in need. I had the honor of working with Jeff during his time with the Middletown Police Department while I was serving Middletown Township.

Jeffry truly exemplifies the spirit of community, and I want to congratulate him on this well-deserved honor. More info on the parade:  Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Bill to Ease Shortage in Long-Term Care Workers Approved by Senate

To help alleviate Pennsylvania’s serious shortage of long-term care workers, the Senate approved legislation to allow high school juniors and seniors to earn graduation credit by working or volunteering in these settings so they can consider a career in this crucial field.

Health care leaders and senior advocates strongly support Senate Bill 116 because while Pennsylvania’s population over the age of 65 is expected to nearly double by 2040, the number of long-term care professionals declined by 14% from 2019 to 2022.

This bill is part of a bipartisan package aimed at strengthening the long-term care workforce. Along with Senate Bill 114 and Senate Bill 115, it awaits action in the House of Representatives.

Family Caregivers Can Find Help Through State Support Program

Caring for a loved one is rewarding but also challenging. If you or someone you know could use some help, the state Caregiver Support Program could be the answer.

The state Caregiver Support Program provides relief through respite care, education and financial assistance for eligible unpaid caregivers. Each caregiver is assigned a care manager who will come to the home, conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the caregiver, provide support and work with them to develop a care plan.

Find out more about eligibility and how to apply, and find other caregiver resources, from the Department of Aging
