Recognizing a Local Hero

Yesterday, I joined Pat, staff member of Rep. Marcell, to recognize Dr. John Sampson, veterinarian and owner of Richboro Veterinary Hospital, for his heroic actions at Hersheypark this past summer. While visiting with his family, Dr. Sampson rescued a young boy who had become separated from his family and wandered onto a sky-high monorail track, despite the ride being closed.

Without hesitation, Dr. Sampson climbed onto a nearby roof, accessed the track, and safely guided the child to safety. He described his actions as a natural reaction and hopes his story inspires others to step in and help when they can, rather than simply video a dangerous situation.  See full story of rescue

Welcome to Levittown, Lincoln Tech

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Lincoln Tech’s new campus in Levittown. I spoke at the event and thanked Lincoln Tech for choosing our community to help train the next generation of skilled workers and for investing in the redevelopment of an existing building.

Workforce development is critical to strengthening our local economy, creating new opportunities for families, and preparing students for high-demand careers. We’re proud to welcome Lincoln Tech and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our community.

Celebrating Milestone Birthdays in the 6th District

I had the honor of celebrating two milestone birthdays in the 6th Senatorial District this past week.  I stopped by Jerry Jonas’ 95th birthday party in Levittown and Ida O’Rourke’s 100th birthday at Southampton Estates this past week.

A proud Korean War veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Jerry has lived a life of service to his country and to his community. He is a devoted father of six, grandfather to five, and great grandfather of three, and shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elizabeth. After his military service, Jerry built a distinguished career in journalism and advertising, authored a newspaper column for 30 years, and volunteered with Operation Stand Down while remaining active at Queen of the Universe Church in Levittown.

Ida, the beloved wife of the late Kenneth O’Rourke, is the proud mother of two children and also has been blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ida supported her family through sewing in her youth before commuting to Manhattan for her first office job, later settling in Trevose in 1965 as a devoted mother and homemaker. Since moving to Southampton Estates in 2012, she has volunteered in numerous roles and is admired for her community spirit and dedication to family and friends.

Wishing Jerry and Ida a very happy birthday and many more healthy years ahead.

$1 Billion Dollar Investment in Pennsylvania

I was proud to join Governor Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger, and fellow elected officials on Wednesday, for the announcement of a $1 billion investment by Johnson & Johnson to build a next-generation cell therapy manufacturing facility in Montgomery County, supporting the production of medicines for cancer, immune-mediated, and neurological diseases.

Although not in Bucks County, this project is another win for the entire Commonwealth and our region, as it will strengthen our economy, creating more than 500 new jobs, retaining 5,885 full-time positions, and supporting 4,000 construction jobs during the project.
