American Red Cross Donation Center Opens in LanghorneI was honored to join American Red Cross officials, volunteers, and donors for the opening of the first Bucks County donation center, located at 100 N. Bucks Town Drive, Suite 204 in Langhorne. Donation centers are the only places the Red Cross collects platelets – tiny cells in your blood that form clots and stop bleeding. With a shelf life of only five days, platelets are in constant demand to treat patients with cancer and others facing life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Eagle Scout HonorsCongratulations to Hunter Stack of Troop 147 and Matthew Pienkowski of Troop 11 for both earning the rank of Eagle Scout – the highest advancement rank available in the Boy Scouts. For Hunter’s Eagle Scout Community Project, he constructed two shelters for the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center to house wildlife for rehabilitation. These shelters will provide a safe and secure environment for injured wildlife to heal before being returned to their natural habitat. Matthew’s project involved transforming an underutilized area at the Bensalem Senior Citizen Center Memorial Garden. He refurbished unused land to provide a sanctuary of remembrance for lost loved ones. It is a beautiful space in nature reserved for kinship and reflection where anyone can purchase commemorative bricks with names and messages to live on. Please join me in congratulating Hunter and Matthew on all their hard work and dedication that led to this monumental achievement and wishing these true leaders all the success in their future endeavors. Senate Passes Legislation to Safeguard Transit OperatorsThe PA Senate passed legislation last week to safeguard our transit operators. Senate Bill 210, which I co-authored with Senator Joe Picozzi, Senator Tracy Pennycuick and Senator Tina Tartaglione is named after U.S. Army veteran Bernard Gribbin – a SEPTA bus operator who was murdered in 2023 while working. Our transit workers deserve to be safe in their workplace. This bill would not only provide the necessary protections for our hardworking transit employees who provide a critical service to our community and are vital to Pennsylvania but protect the passengers and other commuters on the roadway. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration. Over $400,000 Awarded to Local Fire and EMS CompaniesOver $400,000 of grants were awarded to Fire and EMS companies in the 6th Senatorial District that sought funding for the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program (FCEMSGP). The Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program is an annual grant program available for volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services and rescue squads and is administered by the Office of State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Below are the list of grants and the organizations that received them in the 6th Senatorial District. Through legislation, I was instrumental in reauthorizing this grant program as well as expanding it to better meet the needs of our local volunteer and career fire companies. This state funding is much needed for both our volunteer and paid first responders and the communities they protect. Eligible projects in accordance with the 2024-25 FCEMSGP Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.
