Home Safety Event Success

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Home Safety Event a success. We had great day full of learning, community and fun. Rep. Kristin Marcell and I enjoyed having the opportunity to engage with constituents.

A special thank you to Kidde Fire Safety for all their work planning this event and providing our community with valuable fire and carbon monoxide safety tips, and alarm donations.

Thank you to Dr. Covelle and the wonderful staff at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology for welcoming us. We are grateful to Warwick Township Fire Company No. 1 for their support and for all they do to keep our residents safe. American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania and Bucks County 911 joined us and shared information about the important work that you do.

If you were unable to attend our event and are in need of a smoke alarm, you may reach out to your township or local fire department.

Upcoming Senior Expo

I am hosting a free Senior Expo on September 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northampton Valley Country Club, located at 299 Richboro Rd. in Richboro. The event will feature exhibitors from state, federal, county, and local agencies offering information on various programs available to assist seniors.

There will also be refreshments, prizes, health screenings, flu and covid-19 vaccines, a prescription take-back on-site, and a senior SEPTA key card processing station.

This is a great ‘one-stop shop’ opportunity for seniors and their families and caregivers to gather valuable information and meet face-to-face people in our area who can assist them with a wide range of services. Our staff will also be on site during the event to address any state-related issues or questions.

Upcoming Shredding Event

To help residents guard themselves against identity theft, Rep. Tomlinson and are hosting a free paper shredding event on Saturday, September 19 from 10 am- noon at Bensalem High School, located at 4319 Hulmeville Ave.

Residents of the 6^th Senate District are encouraged to bring documents that contain sensitive information to be thoroughly shredded. We are also accepting donations of pet food and pet supplies in partnership with Women’s Animal Center.

Please note this event is for residents only; no businesses, please. Due to high demand, there is a limit of two file boxes of paper per individual to be shredded. We cannot accept plastic bags as the machine will not allow.

Prior to the event, please place all shredding materials and donation items in the trunk of your vehicle.  Once you arrive, stay in your vehicle and staff will assist with removing the materials. 

Breaking New Ground Honoring a Legacy of Service

I was proud to join Woods System of Care and local elected officials last week for the groundbreaking of the Barry R. Sharer Pavilion, honoring a longtime leader whose dedication and service will now have a lasting impact on Woods and the people they support.

This project will provide housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and neurodivergence alongside the broader community, helping create an inclusive community full of opportunity.

Help Us Make Youth Activities More Affordable

Reps. Joe Hogan, KC Tomlinson, Kristin Marcell, Shelby Labs, Craig Staats and I have introduced legislation that would provide families with a tax credit of up to $2,000 per child for eligible youth activities.

We need your help to get Senate Bill 1441 and House Bill 2753 moving in Harrisburg. Too often, good legislation can take years to become law. With enough support from families like yours, we can show our fellow lawmakers that Pennsylvania families want and need this tax credit—and help get it passed sooner.

Historic Settlement with Meta Includes Social Media Protections

Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Pennsylvania and a multistate coalition have reached a settlement with Meta, owner of Instagram and Facebook, assuring the social media giant will implement sweeping changes to age verification, limit children’s time on their platforms and cut kids’ access to harmful content.

The settlement, which involves up to $17.1 billion in national remediation payments, is contingent on other major social media companies agreeing to the same changes. Pennsylvania is expected to receive more than $500 million. The attorney general also filed a lawsuit against the owners of Snapchat regarding its failures to warn users of platform addictiveness and protect children from compulsive use. In recent years, I’ve worked with my colleagues to strengthen Pennsylvania laws against malicious deepfakes and AI child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and created the Task Force on Child Protection in the Digital Age. The Senate passed bills to enhance mandatory reporting requirements for AI CSAM and protect children from dangerous AI chatbot interaction. Technology opens doors for children, and we must ensure it’s used safely.

More than a day off, Labor Day is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of workers who provide for their families and allow communities to thrive. I’m committed to helping these workers keep more of what they earn.
